WHY WASTE 'WASTE'!

Better waste handling can definitely be seen as a good virtue for humans. We can definitely help each other by choosing the right way to dispose of or take care of the waste generated by us. We hereby provide you with some simple waste handling, waste processing, and waste collection solutions which can help you choose the right thing. AT INDIVIDUAL LEVEL

AT NEIGHBOURHOOD LEVEL

AT CITY LEVEL

Wet Waste	Keep wet waste separate. Compost your wet waste to convert into manure for your garden. There are bins, pots, drums, baskets available to do your daily composting. We can also generate biogas from wet waste at home.
Dry Waste	Reuse and recycle as much as you can old glass bottles, plastic containers, cardboard and paper. Segregate what you can, such as milk bags, plastic, MLP and give in a segregated manner to the wastepicker or waste collection agency in your area. Reuse and recycle as many old glass bottles, plastic containers, cardboard and paper as possible.
Plastic Waste	Keep it clean, do not mix with wet waste, and then give it for recycling.
Sanitary Waste	Wrap the waste, such as diapers, sanitary pad, condoms etc. separately in paper, mark it with a red dot or cross as requested by your city. Give it separately to the Wastepicker or waste collection agency.
Domestic Hazardous Waste	Store it separately and give it to your city collection system on the days they collect the hazardous waste, or deposit it at centers established by the city.
Garden Waste	Compost it or give it to the garden collection system of your city.
E-Waste	Give to authorised e-waste collector, check on ULB website or Pollution Control Board website for them. List of e-waste recyclers
Biomedical Waste	Biomedical waste such as used masks, syringes, medicines etc should be put in a yellow color garbage bag and given to the authorized waste collection agency.
Construction Waste	Give it to C&D waste collection system in your city. Call the local ward office, to find the nearest location to deposit the construction debris, ask your contractor to deposit it there. There should be a on call service in your city.
Old Clothes	Donate it to initiatives in the city that collect old clothes for either upcycling or reuse.

AT NEIGHBOURHOOD LEVEL

Wet Waste	Encourage and promote segregation at source. Collect wet waste separately. At your building/society/ neighbourhood level set up a wet waste composting unit/ biogas unit. Compost the neighbourhood wet waste to convert into manure for gardens and green areas in your neighbourhood or you can also generate biogas at comunity level, which can be used further for working. There are technologies and vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Dry Waste	Encourage and promote segregation. At your building/society/ neighbourhood level set up a segregation center. This will consists of bins kept to collect different types of waste. Tie up with your local scrap shop to purchase and take the waste for recycling. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Plastic Waste	Encourage and promote less use of plastic. When used keep it clean, do not mix with wet waste. There are different types of plastic with each type having different potential for recycling. At your building/society/ neighbourhood level set up a segregation center. This will consists of bins kept to collect different types of plastic waste. Tie up with your local scrap shop to purchase and take the waste for recycling. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Sanitary Waste	Encourage and promote for keeping sanitary waste such as diapers, sanitary pad, condoms etc. separately, to wrap it in paper, mark it with a red dot or cross as requested by your city. Tie up with vendors who can collect this waste and process it or give it separately to the Wastepicker or waste collection agency. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Garden Waste	Create common collection points in the neighborhood. At your building/society/ neighbourhood level set up a garden waste composting unit. Or give it to agencies for Mulching and using in gardens. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
E Waste	Set up an e-waste collection center/ bin at your building/society/ neighbourhood level. Tie up with an authorised e-waste collector, (Check on ULB website or Pollution Control Board website for them) and schedule periodical collection. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Construction Waste	Give to C&D waste collection system in your city. Call the local ward office, to find the nearest location to deposit the construction debris, ask your contractor to deposit it there. There should be a on call service in your city.

AT CITY LEVEL

Wet Waste	Estimate the total quantity of wet waste generated and collected in the city. Encourage home composting and on site processing by Bulk waste generators. Set up centralised or decentralised wet waste processing plants. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Dry Waste	Estimate the total quantity of dry waste generated and collected in the city. Encourage segregation, recycling and reuse of dry waste. Engage wastepickers and informal sector in the collection. Set up Dry Waste Collection Centers at ward level. Set up centralised or decentralised dry waste processing & recycling plants. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Sanitary Waste	Estimate the total quantity of Sanitary waste generated and collected in the city. This is usually 2 to 3% of your total waste quantity. Encourage segregation and providing it as separately wrapped in newspaper and marked with a dot or a cross. Ensure separate collection on vehicles in a bin or sack. Set up centralised Sanitary waste processing plant. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Domestic Hazardous Waste	Encourage segregation Domestic Hazardous waste at household level. Ensure separate collection on vehicles in a bin or sack. Or set up a centers for citizens to deposit their domestic hazardous waste. ULBs should establish a minimum of one domestic hazardous deposition center per ward or per zone, for ease of deposition of the users. Set up centralised domestic hazardous waste processing plant or send the waste to the Pollution Control Board authorized Hazardous waste processing plant in the region. Read guideline
Garden Waste	Encourage segregation garden waste at household and society level. Identify collection points at ward level. Ensure separate collection vehicles for garden waste. Collect horticulture, parks and garden waste separately and process it in the nearby parks and gardens, as far as possible. Set up Garden waste processing facility. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
E-Waste	Encourage segregation of e-waste at household and society level. Set up a e-waste collection center at ward level. Tie up with a authorised e-waste collector to collect and process the e waste. Set up periodical collection. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you. Read guideline
Biomedical Waste	The biomedical waste should be disposed of in accordance with the Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016. Read rules Set up a Collection system of Biomedical waste from all hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and medical facilities. Set up centralised biomedical waste processing plant or send the waste to the Pollution Control Board authorized biomedical waste processing plant in the region.
Construction and Demolition Waste	The C&D waste should be disposed of in accordance with the C&D waste Management Rules, 2016. Read rules Encourage and promote that construction waste from renovations, construction or demolition is kept separate and given to authorized agency. Set up C&D waste collection locations within each local ward. Set up a oncall service in your city for the same. Set up a collection system of C&D waste from all construction sites in city. Set up centralised or cluster based C&D waste processing plant to recycle the waste into building material. There are vendors available to provide this service and guide you.
Sweeping and silt waste	Sweeping waste should be kept separate from the other waste types. Ensure separate collection vehicles for sweeping and silt waste. Street sweeping and drain cleaning waste are to be collected in separate bins and transported directly to the sanitary landfill facility.
