Waste that is contaminated by bodily fluids, for example children and adult diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons, condoms etc are all classified under sanitary waste.

Collection of segregated sanitary waste is still a problem due to both lack of collection system facilitating segregated waste collection and social taboos about menstrual hygiene.

Generation of sanitary waste in a particular vicinity can only be approximated based on demography of the area and hence setting up a system also becomes a challenge.

Handling of such a waste has deep ill effects on health of the safai mitras which actually has a simple solution of wrapping the sanitary waste in a paper and marking it with red dot so that safai mitra can identify and hence handle it with care.
